Vision
At Welch Workshop we aim to help fathers learn how to grow their skills and inspire them to build stronger bonds with their families. Through learning practical and handy skills, we want dads to become a better version of themselves to help build the next generation.
Values
Family
“Family is not an important thing. It’s everything.”
– Michael J. Fox.
Family is our top priority. Everything we do as fathers is for our families. The more we can grow ourselves, the more we can help others. Crafting and hands on activities are effective ways to build stronger bonds creative thinking.
Curiosity
“The important thing is to not stop questioning, curiosity has its own reason for existing”
– Albert Einstein
We live in the information age and there are no excuses not to be learning something new everyday. Children are curious creatures, and they are always watching. Our job is to supervise their curiosity not restrict it. Remember to let them ask questions, no matter how big or small.
Integrity
“The time is always right to do what is right”
– Martin Luther King jr.
Integrity is an important value to have and to pass down to our children. Every action we take must be used for the good of others. Raising kids with high integrity is essential, especially as they grow older. An added benefit is that trust comes more naturally and those teen years might be less stressful.
Respect
“A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
– Dr. Seuss
Respect is very important to us. It doesn’t matter where you live, what you look like, or what you believe in, we just want to help everyone learn how to better themselves. We want to build a community of respectful fathers that want to help each other grow and learn together.
Compassion
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
– Maya Angelou
We are all in this world together and should look out for each other. As we grow, our ability to help those in need will expand. Whether it be local communities or worldwide outreach, our goal is to help future generations understand the importance of practical hands-on skills and self sufficiency.
About Welch Workshop
I often find it difficult to talk about myself, and chances are very few people will actually read this. However, for those who wish to know more about how Welch Workshop came to be, here you go.
My name is Chris. I have been a maker my entire live. I was always building things, or “designing” things in my mind. My favorite toys were always Lego, erector sets, K’Nex or anything that allowed me to build.
My Grandfather got me into woodworking and chip carving when I was old enough to handle a carving knife. My dad introduced me to computers and electronics. My stepdad introduced me to outdoors and mechanics.
I have a high aptitude and passion for building, it doesn’t really matter what the material is. I gravitated towards woodworking because of my Grandfather and the lower barrier for entry. I love fabricating things out of metal and welding and hope to enter the world of 3d printing when I have the opportunity. I have also found that I have an affinity to CAD or 3d modeling and can’t wait to start teaching others how to use it.
I never considered my self a teacher, however I have a strong passion for making and one of the best ways to improve yourself is by teaching others.
My children are my life and I’m excited to pass on my skills and knowledge to them. My idea for this website is to inspire other fathers to turn off the TV and put down their phones and make something with their kids. You would not believe the experiences you will have when you start this journey. These are the memories that will your children and grandchildren will keep with them for the rest of their lives.
Thank you for you support and hopefully we can grow together.
Chris
